My Film Magazine

My Film Magazine

Outline and purpose

The purpose of my film magazine is to provide an in-depth analysis of a chosen film and give an overview of the film as well as any necessary extra information about the chosen film. My film magazine will be a current film that has recently been released. I will choose a current film due to the nature of my target audience and their lack of interest towards past films. My film magazine will feature a double page spread within it that will include a full analysis about the film.

Target Audience

My film magazine will be targeted at audiences aged 15-30 years old. The reason for this specific age range is due to the nature of the featured film and analysed text within. The magazine may feature explicit language and topics that may be inappropriate or sensitive for younger viewers. It would be inappropriate for children under the age of 15 to reading the content of the article. Anyone older than 30 years of age will be outside of my considered age bracket because anyone outside of the age bracket may not show interest in the content due to their mature age and the content of the magazine may be inappropriate or immature for their age. However, there may be a fair few adult outside of this age bracket may show interest to this genre of film and may be interested in reading about it. This is why my target audience bracket is only a targeted guideline and is not strictly limited to 15-40 year olds. The guideline should be at the readers discretion.

Production Costs and Sales

Based on secondary research (obtained by worksthatwork.com) costs for the basic production of a magazine can start at US$20/ £15 for a printed version and US$10/£8 for a digital version. However, sale price is likely to be a small fraction of the cost. On the other hand, contrasting secondary research (obtained by quora.com) suggests that production costs US$2 each to print which is equivalent to £1.52 GBP.

My film magazine would be sold in places such as newsagents, supermarkets, news stands, and specialist stores. I have chosen to sell my magazine in these stores because they are frequently entered stores/ areas with many customers entering purely for purchasing magazines and articles to read from. Selling my magazine in a variety of stores will ensured accessibility for my entire target audience as few might not have either a supermarket, newsagents, news stand or selected store in their local area.
